Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean to work with an independent financial advisor?
As an independent financial advisor, we are not limited to the products of a single financial institution. At Accretion we have greater flexibility to evaluate strategies, investments, and resources based on each client’s individual needs and goals. Through our relationship with Sanctuary Wealth, we maintain our independence while having access to the technology, resources, and infrastructure of a larger wealth management platform.
What does it mean to work with a fiduciary?
A fiduciary is required to put your interests first when providing investment advice. That responsibility includes a duty of care and a duty of loyalty. For us, it means understanding what matters to you, providing advice aligned with your goals, and being transparent about potential conflicts of interest.
Where are my assets held when I work with Accretion?
Your assets are held with a qualified third-party custodian rather than directly at Accretion. For accounts custodied with BNY Pershing, Pershing holds and safeguards the assets while Accretion provides the advice and wealth management relationship. This separation between your advisor and the institution holding your assets provides an important layer of independence and oversight.
Who are Sanctuary Wealth and BNY Mellon | Pershing, and what role do they play?
Accretion operates as an independent wealth management firm within the Sanctuary Wealth network. Sanctuary provides the platform, technology, operational resources, and other infrastructure that support our practice, while allowing us to maintain control of our client relationships and approach. BNY Pershing provides clearing and custody services and, for accounts held there, safeguards client assets and supports account reporting and transactions.
What happens to my assets if my advisor is unavailable or Accretion is no longer in business?
Your assets are held with a qualified third-party custodian, not directly by Accretion. This means your assets remain in your custodial accounts even if your individual advisor becomes unavailable or there is a change involving Accretion. Our relationship with Sanctuary Wealth also provides broader operational infrastructure and support beyond an individual advisor.
Will I have direct access to my accounts and investment information?
Yes. You maintain visibility into your accounts and can securely access information about your holdings and account activity through the custodian’s platform. Qualified custodians also provide account statements directly to clients, along with applicable trade information and tax documents.
What is expected of me as an Accretion client?
The best advice begins with an open and collaborative relationship. We ask that you keep us informed about your goals, priorities, financial circumstances, and meaningful changes in your life. From there, we can work together to keep your wealth strategy aligned with what matters to you.
